Making earth day every day
We know that you want the best for your hair—and we do, too. That's why we use organic ingredients in our haircare products.
But what does "organic" mean? It means that we use only ingredients that were grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, and without the use of genetic engineering. Organic farming helps biodiversity by not using harmful chemicals, which can harm insects and other wildlife. Organic farming also doesn't rely on fossil fuels, so it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and protects the environment. It also protects against soil erosion, water contamination, and air pollution caused by pesticides.
More to the point on water contamination; we need to protect the clean water that we have now, for our future. I will touch on clean water in a future blog, as I feel very strongly that we can do more to protect our water by reducing plastic pollution. This is as simple as choosing cosmetics and personal care products including haircare that do not contain plastic as an ingredient. I know that is shocking to realise but it is true - the Plastic soup foundation base in the Netherlands have identified that 9-10 cosmetics and personal care products contain plastic as an ingredient in the formulations. Here are some of the Plastic & Silicone ingredients to look out for:
- Dimethacone
- Cyclomethicone
- Acrylates
- Copolymers
- Polymers
- Polyethilene Glycol (PEG), mostly found abbreviated with other numbers like PEG-4 or PEG-80 etc.
- Polypropylene glycols (PPG)
- Amodimethicone
- Pheryl Trimethicone
- Stearyl Dimethicone
- Ceteraryl Methicone.
- Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)
- Nylon (PA)
I have known about the use of plastic as an ingredient for over 20 years and this is what led me to develop my own haircare range and begin begin my journey to educate people on the impact of plastic on our environment and personal health. I am concerned that we have a huge amount of hair follicles on the scalp all of which have a blood supply, in reverse this is a direct route to the blood stream.
I believe that we can all make a difference by making informed choices that promote a healthier planet and safer products for us all.
We are not perfect and have chosen to try a range of different packaging and see which works best for you. Packaging is always a challenge which is why we try to encourage our Supersize options once you fall in love with a product in the range. Our Clean shampoo bottle is made from 100% post-consumer plastic. therefore it is not single use, it can also be refilled. Our Clean conditioner tube is made from 100% sugarcane plastic so it doesn't use any petroleum to make it and can be recycled. We use recycled aluminium and glass that can be recycled. All of our smaller sizes are refillable and we offer Klarna to spread the cost of the larger sizes.
We're doing our part to reduce waste in landfills and oceans.
